If Only One was our melodic, proggy single, The Maw is the opposite end of our spectrum - riffs, breakdowns, and dissonance.

Lyrically, this song follows directly on from Only One, as our protagonist reflects on the limits of his understanding - is anything as it appears, and can he ever truly know anything about the world around him? This song takes on an epistemological lens that also feeds into the lyrics of Chirality, which takes that idea and applies it to our understanding of identity.
